Summer Farm Update
June is always a special time on the farm, when our lavender fields are in full bloom, and this year was no different! The farm has been busy these last few weeks with lots of photo sessions and for the first time, we opened up the farm to the public for our uPick lavender bouquets. We were blown away by how much people wanted to come visit the farm, walk through the lavender fields, and schedule photo sessions. We are looking forward to continuing to improve both of these experiences next year for everyone who comes to visit! We also started offering weekly and bi-weekly bouquet subscriptions and brought fresh and dried lavender bouquets to the Thompson’s Station Farmer’s Market in mid-June!
As our lavender season slows down, our test sunflower patch is in full bloom and our cut flower garden is just starting to blossom! While we are not planning on any public farm events in the next few weeks, the farm is still available on a reservation only basis. Photo sessions can be scheduled for those looking for a quieter place for outdoor summer or creek mini-sessions, and reservations can be made for uPick flowers, which includes access to our cut flower garden and other flower fields! We will also be at the Thompson’s Stations Farmer’s Market with fresh flower bouquets and dried lavender several more times this season.
We are also preparing for lots of sunflowers in the coming months! We have been planting several hundred sunflower seeds every 7-10 days for the last few weeks, and while the birds and rabbits got to our first few plantings, we are figuring out how to keep our sunflower seedlings safe and are looking forward to several uPick sunflower events and sunflower field photo sessions in September. We are also looking forward to offering sunflower bouquets and tucking in some of these cheerful flowers in our mixed bouquets at the Thompson’s Station Farmers Market!
In the midst of our planting and harvesting, we are also making plans for expanding our flower fields. This fall we are going to prepare two large fields past the creek, one for sunflowers and another for more lavender. Our goal is to get the soil prepped with all the amendments it needs so come spring we can run irrigation and plant. We are taking advantage of the hot summers in Tennessee to use the sun to kill off the grass where are flower fields are going to go, and in a few months should be ready to start preparing the flower fields.
