Lavender Field Photo Sessions
Every June, the lavender fields at Menkveld Farm are in full-bloom and provide a unique location for outdoor photos in Nashville! Last summer we opened up the farm for lavender photo sessions for the first time, and we were overwhelmed by the interest from photographers and clients all over Tennessee! We loved getting to meet so many different people at all stages in life and see how each photographer was able to capture the farm and their clients with their own unique style.
Due to the overwhelming demand last summer, we planted a second field of lavender to extend our lavender and photo season! When we planted our first field of lavender in 2017, we kept with a single variety that is known to withstand the hot, humid summers we experience here in the South – if you don’t know much about lavender, the plants are not a fan of humid weather or our heavy clay soil, which makes growing the plants a challenge in the South. As this first variety of lavender only blooms for 3-4 weeks we found a new variety with a slightly different bloom time and a reputation for blooming over a longer period of time. So far this new variety has held up amazingly well and we are excited to see how it performs this year.
As lavender fields are not something commonly found in Middle Tennessee, the farm is a favorite location for photo sessions while the field is in bloom. This year we are opening up reservations for lavender sessions in the main field on March 26. Sessions are available daily during the month of June, with some dates reserved for reschedules due to inclement weather. As we get closer to summer and can better evaluate how our new lavender field is progressing, we hope to open up a second set of sessions for the month of July.
We are excited for our second year of lavender photo sessions, and can’t wait to share the farm with everyone again this summer!
